Reishi Hot Chocolate
Cozy up with a cup of rich, velvety hot chocolate infused with immune-boosting reishi mushrooms from Hawk Nest Farm and heart-healthy dark chocolate from Apalache Chocolate. This soothing blend offers the perfect balance of indulgence and wellness, making it your go-to drink during the chilly winter months. According to Matt, this beverage is typically judged by how frothy the mixture is, which indicates how much effort was put into it. Mine isn’t as frothy as it could be, but I can assure you, it tastes delicious!

Ingredients
Reishi Tea Base:
0.5 oz of dried reishi mushroom* (1 “finger” of Hawk Nest Farm reishi is about 0.5 oz. You can ask Orv for specific weights)
4 cups water
Hot Chocolate:
1 (3.2 oz) bar Apalache Chocolate dark chocolate*, finely chopped
1.5 cups reishi tea
1.5 cups milk or milk substitute
1 tablespoon honey* or maple syrup* (adjust to taste)
Pinch of salt
Optional: ½ teaspoon cinnamon
*These ingredients can be found at the Harrisonburg Farmers Market
Method
Heat 0.5 oz of dried reishi mushroom in 4 cups of water.
Bring to a boil and let it simmer for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for a stronger brew. Strain and set aside.
In a saucepan, combine chocolate, reishi tea, and milk over medium heat, whisking constantly to prevent burning.
Once fully melted, whisk vigorously every few minutes to create a frothy top. Sweeten with honey or maple syrup, add pinch of salt and cinnamon if desired. Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy this nourishing, warming treat!
